Aonverse Opens a Creator-Owned Social Network for Artists, Comic Creators and Cosplayers

The 18+ platform pairs customizable profiles with creator storefronts and donations, and does not sell user data, use an algorithm or train AI on members' work

[CITY, State], [Month Day, Year]: Aonverse today opened its social network for artists, writers, comic creators and cosplayers at aonverse.com. Built for creators, by creators, the platform aims to restore the customization and creative freedom of the early internet, in a space where members' personal data is not sold to advertisers.

The company describes Aonverse as a mix of Tumblr, MySpace and Etsy. Members can customize their own pages, build a recognizable identity, share their work and connect with communities around anime, cosplay, gaming, comics and digital illustration. The network is open to adults 18 and over.

Aonverse operates on three commitments: it does not sell user data, it does not use an algorithm to rank what members see, and it does not train AI on members' work. A setting called Dune mode lets members filter out AI-generated content.

The platform also supports creator income. Members can open their own store and sell their work, or support favorite creators through donations. Sellers do not need large daily traffic to use the marketplace. Aonverse is designed to work as a persistent storefront, with sales driven by word of mouth within the community. The platform also includes gamified participation features.

Aonverse connects its online fandom communities with real-world conventions, mixers and creative events, giving illustrators, filmmakers, photographers, digital artists and comic creators a way to carry relationships built online into physical creative spaces.

The idea draws on the web of the mid-2000s, when creators posted artwork on DeviantArt, read fan fiction on Tumblr and personalized MySpace profiles with custom HTML and music. The founder's aim is to rebuild that atmosphere of self-expression for creators who are wary of data tracking, advertiser monitoring and unauthorized use of their work by AI systems.

"We want to bring back the magic of the early internet. We want a fun, safe and creative place where we can all be ourselves again," said Darrien Carter, Founder.
